The Engolasters Hydroelectric Trail can be considered a complementary tour to that of the MW Electricity Museum, as it features the water collecting facilities that feed the hydroelectric plant.

Nevertheless, this activity has a much deeper meaning when it comes to its history, as it allows us to witness the origins of the great construction work that took place in Andorra in the 1930s: the effort that went into building all of the facilities located around the lake of Engolasters and its repercussions for the Andorran society at the time. The information given during the guided tour will take us to the time when those constructions were built, explaining the techniques used by the workers, which are very different from what we can see today.

Conveying the effort put by FHASA into integrating its constructions and facilities into the nature surrounding the lake of Engolasters and the Madriu Valley is a key element of the tour. Nowadays, FEDA keeps putting that effort in all of its projects.

The most surprising thing about these constructions and facilities from the 1930s might very well be the fact that they are still an active part of the electric production chain in Andorra and that, thanks to them, we can generate between 15 and 20% of the electricity consumed in the country with the strength of the water.

These facilities can be visited in a 90-minute stroll, along with the guard’s house, the dam, the lake, the main valve and the inner gallery of the dam, surrounded by nature in its purest state.
