Casa Cristo is more than just a simple house-museum: it is a true journey back in time to the late 19th century and early 20th century in Andorra that focuses on the humble class, a peasant family. The house, with its three floors, was built in the late 18th century, but its layout and original elements have remained intact, like a real first-hand account of a now-bygone lifestyle. A slate sink and a closet full of white clothes containing a centennial christening outfit are among the many small details of the house that show austerity and dignity. Although the house is narrow in order to adapt to the reduced space of the terrain, it has rooms meant for many uses, such as the cellar, a storage area for agricultural tools and the upper room – a room with a social and festive function located on the last floor. The house was inhabited until 1947, when its owners moved to France and left it as a secondary residency. The Comú (city hall) of Encamp bought it and restored it in 1995; it was opened as an ethnographic museum in the year 2000.
