Radio Andorra

“This is Radio Andorra, the radio station of the Principality of Andorra”. This iconic slogan, heard throughout Europe during the Second World War, was first broadcast in 1940 from the equally iconic building of Radio Andorra, located at the Roc del Pui, in Encamp.

Built in 1938, this historical building was the first broadcasting centre for Radio Andorra, the radio that broadcast from the Principality until the 1980s. Legend says that the songs that were dedicated during World War Two were in fact coded messages. Throughout the 1950s and 1960s, both Radio Andorra and its presenters, known as the Mesdemoiselles Aquí, became a phenomenon. This historical building was bought by the Andorran Government at a symbolic price and became part of the national heritage, with a collection of 200.000 discs in various formats.
